Snow Removal

Effective and efficient snow clearing
is a top priority

Our crews work extremely hard to maintain high levels of service for residents and ratepayers.

Timelines depend on the severity and duration of inclement weather. Snow accumulation, temperature, wind/visibility, availability of operators outside of regular hours and equipment breakdowns can affect snow clearing. As a result, it is difficult to provide a time frame of when a specific area will be completed.

If visibility is poor and/or substantial wind gusts are present, its at the discretion of the Urban/Rural Public Works Foremen to determine when its safe for crews to head out. Snow clearing may be provided outside of regular scheduled hours at the discretion of the Foreman.

Rural Snow Clearing

  • Bus routes and major arterial roads are first priority.
  • Rural residents are responsible for clearing the edge of their driveways/lanes, including ridge left by plow.
  • Residents are not allowed to pile snow on road allowances. Property owners will be charged for snow piles that must be removed for safety reasons.

Rural Driveway Snow Removal

  • Rural residents can sign up to have their driveway/lane cleared for a fee*.
  • Private snow removal will occur after public roads have been completed.
  • This service must be applied for in advance.
  • To sign up, download Snow Removal Agreement, upon completion, return to Municipal Office: 420 South Railway Street, Boissevain.
  • *Rates based on Manitoba Heavy Construction Association.

Urban Snow Clearing

  • Campers, trailers, and boats must be moved off streets and boulevards by October 1.
  • Major routes and streets are first priority.
  • Driveway ridges will be cleared AFTER streets are complete. This is a courtesy service that will occur when time allows and may take several days to complete. Residents able to clear their driveway ridges are encouraged to do so.
  • For safety reasons, residents/property owners/contractors are not allowed to pile or push snow onto municipal streets and boulevards. Snow piles on boulevards must be hauled away immediately at their expense. The Municipality is not responsible for damages to personal property as the result of snow piled on boulevards.
