Over a period of almost forty years a rural farmyard was transformed into a country garden. The size of the garden encompasses an area of one hectare.

Anchorage Gardens had its beginnings routed in innocence. As the garden grew, efforts went from innocence to intent. The meaning of the gardens first manifested itself in naming areas, like “Place of Inspiration” or “Place of Affirmation”. Then came the idea of connecting many of these places with paths. Many of the paths are bordered with rocks from an old stone house dating back to 1898, which was named “The Anchorage”, therefore making a connection with the past. A retired British sailor originally built the Anchorage.

The paths themselves have meaning and purpose. They connect and come in various configurations. Some are in straight lines, some gently winding in various directions; some form a semi-circle, some cross each other.

Life itself is similar. As we move to various places in life, we find that we experience different circumstances, which help us grow as individuals. We all take a different path to get to the same place.

The ultimate intent is that many will walk the paths of this garden, and realize that they will have had a unique experience in reflecting on the meaning of life.

Two principles that form the design of each area and garden are:

  • 1. Construction materials are all recycled.
  • 2. Each area and place has an agricultural accent.
