Darbie's Demo Derby
History:

Darbie’s Demo Derby committee was formed in 2007 when the Smith family & friends took over management of the Boissevain Demolition Derby. The committee decided that each year all profits from the derby would go to a family who is faced with unexpected burdens or to a volunteer organization who work towards making our community a better place to live.

The Smith name is well identified in the demolition derby and stock car race circuit as members have been involved in these events since the 1970’s. Darbie’s Demo Derby has been named in honour of Darlene and Robbie Smith. Ten years ago, Robbie was injured in a stock car race and left a quadraplegic. His wife Darlene suffers from severe Multiple Sclerosis, relying mostly on a motorized scooter to get around. Funds from the 2007 Darbie’s Demolition Derby were put into a trust for this extraordinary couple, who still live in their home in Ninga.

Profits from the 2010 Demo Derby willl go towards Karin Bos of Minto, who was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor in 1996. In January 2010, it was discovered the tumor was now cancerous and began chemotherapy, whch she will continue indefinitely. Karin is a single mother of nine year old twin boys and living on disability.
